Having witnessed firsthand the success and necessity of our training courses during my field trips to Colombia we are continuously trying raising money to repeat and expand these courses, which are in high demand. We are currently running four courses a year and each one trains 35 young people (we have trained 265 to date) from deprived urban backgrounds in the city of Cali. The course trains these youngsters in accountancy and relevant software skills (accountancy is currently one of the most in demand professions in Colombia) and includes vital modules on life skills and career planning as well as a mentoring programme. The course costs £21,500 and runs for seven months. If you want to make a donation or start a fundraising event you can do so online at our BT My Donate page.
Give a ‘Fresh Start’ to local youngsters
We also together with Surrey Youth Support Services to help some of the most disadvantaged young people in the southwest Surrey area. Together we identify youngsters most in need and provide them with the equipment and support services they need help them access education, training and ultimately employment.
We provide small grants for such youngsters help to enable them to take that first step in turning their life around. Funds raised towards the program are spent on items like: suits and/or shoes for job interviews, refurbished laptops for training at home, a basic mobile phone or a bicycle to get to training centres or job interviews. We also sponsor youngsters from lower incomer families through their Duke of Edinburgh award programme funding equipment and clothing and the inscription fee. To date we have supported 50 youngsters through our fresh start programme and in 2017 we will be expanding our programme to support homeless youngsters at particular risk.
We need your help to maintain and expand our programs and to cover our day by day running costs. You can help The Dan Eley Foundation financially by making a donation, doing a fundraising event or setting up a standing order agreement.
We are a small, highly accountable charity and relatively small in numbers. In order that the maximum share possible of the money we raise goes to benefit the children directly involved in our projects we count on the help of a team of dedicated volunteers.
We are always looking for help from volunteers both in England, where we operate our administrative branch and in Colombia for our field operations. If you would like to share your time and skills to support us in any way please contact Dan or one of his trustees through our contact page. Many thanks!
